Collaboration over Competition

In 2018, it's hard to feel original in anything you do. Influencer, blogger, photographer... they're all such saturated markets. Anyone can grab a camera and snap a good-looking photo. Anyone can type out their thoughts and post it to a website. Can it be discouraging? Absolutely. Does that mean you shouldn't do it? No. And here's why.

If you set out to do something, simply to be the BEST at it, you're probably setting yourself up for failure. There will always be someone more talented, more knowledgeable, more determined. You will exhaust yourself by trying to be the best all the time. If anything, do it for yourself: snap pictures because it excites you to capture those kinds of moments; type your thoughts out because what you have to say matters; share your life on social media because you love to meet new people.

It should never be a competition, especially when creativity is involved. I wholeheartedly believe in collaboration over competition. Today, I encourage you to encourage others. Find those creatives whose work speaks to you, and tell them. If you admire someone's editing style, ask them about it. If you have creative ideas for someone else's work, reach out to them. If you want to meet up and collaborate with someone, let them know.

It makes my heart so happy when I get to work with other creatives. When we get to bounce ideas off each other, and share our opinions and create something together. With such a saturated world, it's hard to feel like you're capable of standing out. So next time you're feeling discouraged-don't give up. Reach out some one who inspires you and see what they're up to in world. Do things for yourself and your happiness. Meet new people along the way and create a community that you love to be a part of, and I promise everything else will fall into place.

Love yourself. Love your work. Love your community. Love your inspiration. Love others... Love is everything.
